Inside a circle of family in a circle of friends
they were married in the Oregon night in July
by the Wallowa Lake they had a Cajun band
so much joy in the dancing they flew to the sky
She is a gardener he is a carpenter
growing and building nourishing, sheltering
gateway to wilderness cold air rushes relief across the summer trail

Ah You should see Michele as she telemark skiis down the mountain
Ah To be Michele as she gathers her friends for a hike
Hands on the pottery wheel making practical things of beauty
Wallowa Mountains reveal the Power of Nature and Life

They’re frugal with money and they’re patient with time
She’s got so many friends from each phase of her life
There’s her raspberry patch where she picks from the vine
There’s the house that he built for his children and wife
cottonwoods, alders and aspens explode into
colors of red, yellow, gold, glowing amber
gateway to wilderness warm days lingering sweet into October nights

The mountains have shaped her she’s strong and she’s slim
strong calf muscles hiking and biking and skiis
These women have shaped her the strongest of friends
and she goes back to them in the times of her need
Their children are capable her courage is palpable
she looks for the steepest and deepest of mountain snows
Glaciers left boulders and snow on the shoulders of rugged cliffs of Eagle Cap

There’s mountains to climb friends and family behind
There is thunder rolling from time to time
Monsoon rains that soak everything
in the spingtime fields will boom with green and
wildflowers cover the valleys while the air will smell crisp and clean
